Everyone should have some knowledge of hypnosis after all we use it very often and most often we have no idea we are actually using it. You can use hypnosis to make substantial improvement in your daily life. Hypnosis helps you create, visualise and achieve your life goals, change attitudes and calmly control stressful encounters.

In addition, once you understand how hypnosis works, you can use it to help overcome fears and anxieties, rid yourself of bad habits and improve or cure many medical conditions. In medical illness, hypnosis is far safer and superior to conventional or other treatment. The information laid down in the subconscious mind can be changed. This is much better than treatment with drugs that have unpleasant side effects and after treatment, the benefits last longer.

Hypnotherapy treatment may cause apprehension for some people. This is partly because of the bad impression given by stage hypnotists but mainly because they are reluctant to lose control. A competent and experienced hypnotist will help to reassure them. Alternatively you can practice self hypnosis. This is harder but in the end a much better option. Not only are you helping yourself but you are learning a powerful life enhancing skill. With this skill you can also help others.

A hypnotist can during a hypnotherapy session drop you down to very low level of brainwave activity. Post-hypnotic suggestions become very effective in this state. It is also true that in most cases you do not need to get down to such levels of relaxation to achieve excellent results. By acquiring a good self hypnosis technique, you will relax into a satisfactory level for excellent results.

When starting self hypnosis, reserve a time that you will not have any interruptions Make your self comfortable. You can sit on a comfortable chair or lie on the floor or a sofa. Have adequate head support. Keep your eyes focussed on a object at eye level. If you are lying down, this object could be on the ceiling and on a wall if sitting up. Decide before hand how long your session will last. Keep your eyes fixed on the object and try to dispel all thoughts from your mind.

Focus on your breathing. Breathe in and out slowly and deeply. Breathe in through you mouth and out slowly through your nostrils. While concentrating on your breathing, begin to relax your body. You can start with your toes and progressively relax your entire body by slowly moving up until you reach the head. You can see yourself starting to walk down a set of steps and with every step down, imagine that you are going down into a deeper and deeper relaxation.

Once you are feeling very relaxed, try anchoring this feeling by relating it to a specific thing or word. With persistance, you will be able to bring back this feeling whenever you think or this specific word or thing.

Self hypnosis recordings for numerous illness are freely available on the Internet. They do help but it is much better to record your own script targeting specific topics your want to address. In fact you should make a big list and incoorporate them into one script. You can then record it onto a CD using your own voice and play it while you relax.

When you feel it is time to come out of hypnosis, count up to five and telling yourself you are waking up and as you continue to count up, you are waking up and when you reach five but feeling very relaxed and calm. With self hypnosis, the more you practice, the better you will be at it.
